The pension crisis seems to be dealt with by most people in one of two ways:

1. People grab hold of the issue and address the potential gaping hole with a well though out retirement plan

2. People put their heads in the sand and pretend that it's not going to affect them

For many people, the only way to survive in retirement will be to work. And finding work when you are in your later years can often be difficult. Running your own business from home, or some form of home-working may be the answer you have been looking for. Whatever you decide, though, make sure that you check with your pension or benefit provider to be clear about how much you can earn before it affects your pension, or any other benefit you may be receiving.

Taking the plunge

If you need to earn extra money, then working at home is one possibility. But where do you start? What could you do?

  1. What do you enjoy doing?
  2. How much time have you got to devote to this new enterprise?
  3. How much money do you need to earn?
  4. Have you got any money to invest in your business?
  5. What option is best for you:
    1. your own business
    2. a franchise
    3. home-working for an employer
  6. When you have got an idea you need to develop a plan.
  7. When you have your plan, you need to get going with your business. The sooner you start, the sooner you can begin to make money.
